Pax Galaxia Shrine

Pax Galaxia is a cool PC game based on Risk. Its name comes from Pax Romana (Roman peace). It was created by Diodor Bitan and released in 2003.

Manual's description of the game:

"Pax Galaxia is a fast-paced strategy game of stellar conquest. Your task is to seize control of all the stars on the map. To do this, you must move your forces around, direct where newly produced ships will go, and decide where you will engage hostile ships. To achieve final victory, you must destroy all the enemy forces."

It's one of my brother's childhood games, and he still plays it today, from time to time. It has an editor and multiplayer support, and it works perfectly fine in Wine (rhyme) and newer Windows systems. It can get quite addictive, like Re-Volt ;)

Download the demo on the official DioGames site (archived) for Windows and Mac (contains only the first 5 maps, and easy AI players). Those files are also hosted on Jonathan Campbell's site, which also has other cool Pax stuff! :D The demo at least has full multiplayer. :)

Did you know?: The game used to be called Pax Solaris, but got renamed in late November 2004 (with version 1.10) to avoid possible legal trouble with Sun Microsystems (because of their OS Solaris).

Pax Two, a remake, is in the works :D

Tasharen Entertainment made a spiritual successor to it called Starlink (2013), so that's cool (even though Starlink doesn't have an editor since Tasharen got busy on other games like Windward and Project 5: Sightseer). (Not to be confused with Starlink: Battle for Atlas [2018]!)

I found an archive link to DioGames's version of the demo though :) I don't know if that has multiplayer).
